The FS Skating Club is a freestyle slalom inline skating club based in Richmond, BC, Canada.
As a startup club with only a couple members at the moment, we gather and practice at public outdoor spaces around town sporadically.
We are making lesson plans, and hope to start offering classes to kids and youth in the near future.
Stay tuned, and check back at this website for updates!
"Skaters, we need more talented people like you. Come join the club!"
"Slalom is so much funnnn!"
This is a small skateboard park next to the community centre, and it has the best smooth pavement for slalom among all the places we visited. However, it's also quite busy most of the time as it's popular among skateboarders, bikers, and scooters.
A decent outdoor roller hockey rink. Semi-seclusive with fences around. Usually not too busy. Floor is OK for slalom, but like all outdoor venues, cones will get blown away when it gets windy.
This is a good size skate park featuring several hills, ramps, and rails for those who do aggressive freestyle. Usually not busy, but the pavement is a bit too rough for slalom IMO.
This facility has two full-size indoor hockey rinks. In the winter time it's used for ice hockey & figure skating, and in the summer time it's used for floor hockey and other dry floor sports. As it's a city owned facility, we will need to pay $ to book the rink if we want to host our class here.
We discovered a pretty quiet yet seclusive area inside the mall, which had practically zero traffic due to the COVID situation. So we sneaked in and skated for about half an hour until we got caught by the security guard. Must be our loud music that gave us away haha XD. But oh boy, what a difference it was to skate on those smooth tile floor! It's where freestyle slalom is truly meant to shine!
Well, technically we only skated in front of the building's main entrance, and on the ramps and patio space around it. It being the latest iconic public facility, the city did a good job to make sure the concrete pavement is smooth (relatively speaking). In the beginning of the summer this became our most visited place to practice, primarily because of the nice new concrete, and the low pedestrian traffic.
This was our latest playground before the air quality got so bad due the wildfire down south that grounded everyone from all outdoor activities. This parkade is for the nearby public library, ice rinks, and swimming pools, but because of COVID all these facilities were closed down, and the parkade became near empty all the time. We used to skate on the ground level of the parkade. The pavement is just like the Minoru Centre for Active Living, albeit not as clean. But the best thing was it's covered, so we get to have fun no matter rain or shine!
